PleXus: A Multifunctional Lamp by Taras Zheltyshev

Winner of the Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2015

The PleXus lamp, measuring 1500 x 1500 mm, is a polymorphic object made up of geometric elements. It is a testament to man's aspiration to overcome challenges and explore limitless possibilities. Its design is rooted in the idea of creating a product that serves multiple purposes in people's lives.

What sets PleXus apart from other lamps is its unique mechanisms in the form of a ball hinge with an increased tilt angle. This feature allows the user to change the size of the object by adding or removing modular elements. The lamp can be twisted into a tube, rolled into a sphere, or even used to create a pyramid. It can be placed or hung anywhere, making it a self-sufficient source of light.

The lamp is made from a heat-treated alloy of aluminum with copper, magnesium, and manganese, which ensures its lightness and durability. The production process involves turning work with aluminum to create hinges and incorporating an LED bulb from any manufacturer. This makes the lamp both mobile and durable. The system of ball hinges is the main advantage of this product. They are designed to be inclined 90 degrees and rotated 360 degrees, which allows it to take on multiple, stable forms.

The PleXus lamp is not just a light source; it's a work of art. It can accompany any architectural objects and works of art, such as sculptures and maps. With 100 LED bulbs, it is power-saving and can operate on a battery, making it independent from sockets. It can be used as a floor lamp, chandelier, wall lamp, or table lamp, making it a versatile addition to any space.

The project began in October 2014 in Tomsk, Russian Federation. Despite the challenges of creating a modern, unique element of interior space with light function, Zheltyshev was able to design a product that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. The PleXus lamp is a testament to the power of design and innovation, and its recognition as the winner of the Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2015 is well-deserved.
